Oil-paper umbrellas

An oil-paper umbrella is a type of paper umbrella that originated in China. It subsequently spread across several East, South and Southeast Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Laos, where it has been further developed with different characteristics.

Aboriginal clapsticks

Clapsticks are an Aboriginal musical instrument that are used to provide rhythm.

They are usually two sticks which are struck against one another. They come in a range of sizes and can either be plain or decorated.

  • Egyptian/ Middle Eastern Doumbek (Goblet Drum)

    The goblet drum is a single head membranophone with a goblet shaped body used mostly in the Egypt, Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe. The goblet drum may be played while held under one arm (usually the non-dominant arm) or by placing it sideways upon the lap (with the head towards the player’s knees) while seated.
